About
the talk
“Divine
Love isn’t fickle or variable. It’s the steady
governing force of good, and we can prove its power."
The
law of Love is the central theme of the Bible. It is that
law which the ancient prophets caught wonderful glimpses
of, and which saved the ancient peoples of the Bible from
disease, famine, slavery and enemy forces when they turned
to God. It is the law that was behind Christ Jesus' healing
ministry, which he taught his followers so they could
heal, too. This same law of Love is demonstrated in Christian
Science healing today.
Even
within difficult daily experiences or news headlines about
community and world concerns, we see expressions of love
and kindness making a difference. More than chance occurrences,
these examples of goodness point to a deeper truth: that
there is an overarching influence for good at work. One
might even call that influence divine Love.
Anne
Melville, practitioner of Christian Science healing and
international speaker, will explore this idea in her talk
that will focus on universal healing precepts found in
the Holy Bible, especially in Christ Jesus’ life
and teachings, showing how they are available for anyone
to understand and experience through the lens of Christian
Science.
Sharing examples of healing from her own life and professional
practice of Christian Science, Melville will explain why
Christian Science is both Christian and scientific, meaning
that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves,
as fully described in the book Science and Health
with Key to the Scriptures, written by the founder
of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy.
Melville
will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy, a mid-nineteenth
century woman from New England, who came to understand,
confirm, and teach what she felt was original Christian
healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired
by Jesus’ demand, “He that believes on me,
the works that I do will he do also; and greater works
than these will he do, because I go unto my Father”
(found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible).
For
over 150 years, people around the world have worked to
follow Christ Jesus in this practice of Christianity and
continue to do so today, experiencing healings of physical
ills and personal difficulties.
